This is the last of four limited edition offerings for 2023 from Breedlove's custom color and design team in Bend, Oregon for their Oregon Series Concert guitars. The limited edition "Old Fashioned" finish is a glossy burst named after the classic cocktail.
Breedlove has been one of the main guitar manufacturers leading the way in building instruments from sustainably sourced exotic and native tonewoods for many years now. They never use "clear-cut" wood, choosing to instead salvage fallen timber or individually harvest trees to minimize impact on the forest. Using Myrtlewood as a main tonewood in their guitars has proven to be one of their most successful strategies in accomplishing this goal as it has become very popular among many players who love its unique look and sound.
Myrtlewood, while native to Oregon's Pacific coast (where Breedlove is located), is considered by some to be the most 'exotic' of all tonewoods. Each piece of myrtlewood has the potential to look different from the next, with varying figuring, grain patterns, and coloration, adding to the uniqueness of each individual instrument. More importantly, however, is the tone that it produces, which is described as "capturing the deep bass of rosewood, the pure warmth of mahogany and the sweet, glassy treble of maple."
Included with this guitar is Breedlove's "Guitar Portrait," a hand-written list of specs that are unique to this specific guitar, illustrating some of the points that are incorporated in their Sound Optimization™ process utilized when hand-crafting each of their American-Made instruments. An important aspect of this process is the fact that each piece of wood used for the top and back is planed to a very specific thickness based on its inherent and unique fundamental frequency to ensure that every guitar achieves optimal sound quality. This attention to detail is one of the many things that sets Breedlove apart from the competition. These specs can be seen in below and in the pictures.
The Concert body shape is Breedlove's most popular and versatile design. It works well for fingerstyle playing, vocal accompaniment, and full-on heavy strumming. It is a well-balance, compact, and comfortable body that produces plenty of volume, evenly articulated tone, and plenty of low end that is never boomy, but always felt.
