When Jimmy Cox passed away in 2021, he left behind a legacy in the banjo world. As the primary manufacturer and supplier of rims and resonators, most notably those used to make Gibson-style Mastertone pots, he had also built many custom complete banjos for over 50 years prior to his passing. These instruments are some of the most admired and respected by banjo players, known for their high level of craftsmanship, superior tone quality, and easy playability.
This particular one is a Wolf Creek with serial number 4205 (the third one made) and features the builder's autograph on the head as well as inside the resonator. It also includes a hand-written and signed envelope and invoice for the custom build (original customer's info has been redacted in the pictures to protect their privacy). All parts and components appear to be original and are fully functional. This is one of three Cox banjos recently brought to us to sell on consignment from a long-time banjo player who no longer plays and is looking to pass his great collection on to new players. Check out our other listings if they are still available and feel free to contact us with any questions.
