This custom-made Gourd Banjo was hand-crafted by local builder Chris Witulski in Bowling Green, OH. Professor by day and luthier by night, Chris may be relatively new to the world of banjo-building, but with more than 5 years experience and well over a dozen builds under his belt, his talent, craftsmanship, creativity, and ability are evident and comparable to many more "established" builders.
The neck is constructed from hand-carved maple and hickory with a hickory fingerboard. It also features a free floating fifth string and goat-skin head and produces a rich, warm sound.
The body is made from a thick-walled gourd and sports a flower-shaped sound hole. The head measures roughly 7" x 6.5." It is strung up with Nylgut strings, tuned a fourth lower than "standard" (in open D), and is ready to be played. We welcome you to visit our comfy, climate-controlled showroom to experience this one-of-a-kind instrument.
